Bronze Cross

Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.   This course has a timed swim of 400 meters in 11 minutes

All candidates will be required to have a Canadian Lifesaving Manual, whistle, and a pocket mask.

Bronze Cross Challenge

Bronze Cross (BC) is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safety supervision.

The bronze medallion and Bronze Cross courses are prerequisites for lifeguard certification across Canada.

Competent swimmers, and those with some previous first aid experience are invited to challenge the Bronze Cross course through the Vancouver Lifeguard Association.
Candidates are required to review material from the Canadian Lifesaving manuals as well as be aware of the required elements of the exam. Candidates can contact programs@vancouverlifeguards.com for specific details.

This course has a timed swim of 400 meters in 11 minutes.
